A week ago, WWE‘s debut on Netflix marked the end of a historic 31-year reign for Monday Night Raw as the longest-running weekly episodic series on television.
January 2024, WWE and Netflix struck a landmark deal to bring WWE’s flagship weekly program, RAW, to Netflix beginning last Monday. Netflix is now the exclusive home of RAW in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Latin America, among many other global territories.
Netflix is also the exclusive home of SmackDown, NXT, archive content, and all WWE Premium Live Events — including WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and more — in most international markets.
Some people in the media as well as die-hard wrestling fans thought going with Netflix streaming was a mistake. But last Monday saw a 116% increase from their 2024 average on cable.
Netflix and the WWE drew big numbers.
The move saw a worldwide viewership of nearly 5 million number and close to 3 million viewers here in the United States.
Not to be overlooked was the social media part of the WWE/Netflix in the rating. Last Monday night they were trending at #1 on X for 14 hours in the UK, it is the viewership figures that a record-breaking for wrestling.
#RAWonNetflix and #WWEonNetflix also trended in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and the US. The hashtags generated 223 million social views across platforms on the day of RAW’s Netflix premiere.
Conclusion
No one can deny that the WWE and Netflix deal was good for both sides. The key is sustaining the ratings week after week. If they stream it the audience with will come to Netflix.
