Last night, Vice President Kamala Harris was officially selected as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming November election, yet the party’s convention in Chicago continues for two more days. While Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, campaigned in Minnesota on Tuesday, the vice presidential nominee is scheduled to deliver her acceptance speech at the convention on Wednesday.
Before Tim Walz takes the stage, former President Bill Clinton, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg are slated to deliver remarks at the convention on Wednesday. Pelosi’s address is particularly anticipated, as she was a key player in the effort to nominate a new candidate for the party.
Actress Mindy Kaling, famed for her roles in “The Office” and “The Mindy Project,” is set to host an event on Wednesday night. Beyond her entertainment career, Kaling has engaged in political activities, including co-chairing a fundraiser for Biden’s 2020 campaign alongside Reese Witherspoon. She has also embraced her Indian heritage publicly, notably by preparing masala dosa with then-Senator Kamala Harris in a popular YouTube video.
The video gained renewed attention after former President Donald Trump posted it on his social media, challenging Vice President Harris’s racial identity. The Harris campaign issued a press release stating that the vice president has “dedicated her entire career to fighting for American freedoms,” and characterized Walz as “a steadfast advocate for America’s working families and a vigorous protector of those essential freedoms.”
Tonight, network and cable channels such as ABC, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN, Fox, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, and Spectrum News will broadcast coverage of the events. The conventions are scheduled for the entire day, however, television coverage will primarily focus on the primetime speeches and preceding events, interspersed with commentary from anchors and analysts.
