SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) – Sarah Scully is a millennial who found a passion for activism while at New College of Sarasota.

“It was actually my friend,” recalls Scully. “She told me I was going to this club.”

The club was VOX — or Voices for Planned Parenthood — and it became her career. She’s now a regional organizer for Planned Parenthood’s Southwest and Central Florida regions, but has also helped with other rally’s like the “march for science” last year.

“There’s a lot of criticism of the younger people and the activism that they’re doing, but I think that comes with every generation.”

Keith Fitzgerald, who has taught political science at Scully’s alma mater for over 20 years, agrees.

“I get a little tired of old people like me running down the millennials,” says Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald is part of the “baby boomer” generation, which the Pew Research Center defines as ages 52 to 70 as of 2016. Pew also suggests millennials, defined as aged 20 to 35 will outnumber the baby boomers by next year.
