Chelsea Manning set to be released from prison

Pvt. Chelsea Manning, the transgender soldier who leaked thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, is scheduled to be released from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., on Wednesday after seven years behind bars. Manning’s 35-year sentence was commuted by President Obama, a move that infuriated President Trump and some in the military. Manning entered prison as a man named Bradley. She then identified as a woman and received hormone treatment while incarcerated, making her a cause celebre for transgender advocates. While her conviction is under appeal, Manning will remain an active-duty, unpaid soldier, eligible for health care and other benefits.

According to the US Army, convicted national security secret leaker Chelsea Manning will remain on active duty.
